THE Chief of Kogi State, Justice Nasiru Ajanah has inaugurated the 7-man panel to investigate the embattle d Deputy Governor, Elder Simon Achuba over the allegations of gross misconduct leveled against him by the State Assembly.
While inaugurating the members of the panel at at conference room of High Court in Lokoja on Monday, Justice Ajanah stated that he was guided by the virtue of section 188(5) of the constitution of Federal the Public of Nigeria ,1999 as amended, at the request of the Speaker of House of Assembly to appoint a panel to investigate the Deputy governor.
“I am seized with the constitutional duty of appointing a penal of seven persons who are in my opinion of unquestionable integrity not being members of public service legislative house PR political party to investigate allegations of gross misconduct brought against the Deputy governor of Kogi State ,Elder Simon Achuba”,he stated
The Chief Judge had earlier on Friday constitute a 7-man panel following the letter from Kogi State House of Assembly asking him to do so.
He congratulated all the members on their appointment on this panel in pursuant to section 188(5) of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
“I have appointed each of knowing that you persons of unquestionable integrity and will bring this to bear in discharge of the onerous duty before you .You are asked to investigate the allegations against His Excellency ,the Deputy governor of Kogi State in line with section 188 of the 1999 constitution as amended”, CJ added.
This duty you are to carry out without fear or favour . The basic rules of fair hearing must be sacrosanct in your proceedings . I have no doubt you will discharge this duty which you owe God and Kogi State meritoriously
Ajanah disclosed that by the virtue of 188(7)(b) of the 1999 constitution, they have three months within which to submit their reports to the Kogi State House of Assembly.
The members of the panel are John Beiyeshea (SAN) as the Chairman , Justice S.S Idajili rtd , U.O Onaja Esq. Z.A Asun,E.I Omuya , Ibrahim Ndagi Adamu , Ada Shuibu as members and Bamidele Aina as Secretary .
Speaking on behalf of the members, the Chairman John Baiyeshea conceded the Chief Judge of Kogi State for found them worthy in learning and Character to carry out this onerous assignment.
Baiyeshea pledged that that the panel will carry out it assignment without fear or favour , stressing that panel will be guided by principle of fair hearing as entrenched in section 36 of 1999, constitution as amended.
