President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed regret for the terrorist attack on a Kaduna-bound train on Monday, which resulted in numerous deaths and injuries.
The president expressed his sincere sorrow over the attack, which was the second of its type in recent years.
The bombing of the passenger train was condemned by Buhari, who called it a “matter of profound concern.”
“Like most Nigerians, I am greatly distressed by its occurrence, the second of its kind, which has caused in the deaths of an unknown number of passengers and injury to others.”
“The attack on the train, a secure mode of transportation for many, is cruel; and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the slain and the injured,” President Muhammadu Buhari said in a statement read by his Senior Special Assistant, Malam Garba Shehu.
Buhari ordered that all steps for implementing the integrated security surveillance and monitoring solution for the Abuja-Kaduna and Lagos-Ibadan railway lines be completed as soon as possible.
He also ordered the Nigerian Railway Corporation’s management to restore the damaged lines as soon as possible and restart normal service.
“The President gave these directives in Abuja on Tuesday after receiving briefings from the Service Chiefs, led by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-General Faruk Yahaya, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, and Major General Samuel Adebayo, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, and Yusuf Magaji Bichi, Director General of the Department of State Services, DSS.
The president ordered the security officials to return all of the kidnapped passengers and to seek down and prosecute all of “the cruel terrorists,” saying that “no one should be permitted to hold the country to ransom.”
He reminded the troops of his earlier order to deal mercilessly with terrorists and to not spare anyone illegally brandishing an AK-47.
Buhari, on the other hand, praised law enforcement and emergency personnel for their quick response in evacuating and treating the injured.
