THE Ifeanyi Ubah Football Club players were attacked on Friday by some suspected gunmen in Okene Kogi State on their way to kano for Nigerian professional football league at the day 6 of the match against Jigawa Golden stars.
It was gathered that the bus that was conveying the players was stopped by men disguised in National Youth Service Corp uniforms who fired gun shots at the spot.
Few players were reportedly injured in the incident and are currently in a local hospital receiving treatments.
Media officer of the club, Mr Iyke Nwokedi, who confirmed the incident with newsmen said the players are fine except the driver who was hit by stray bullet.
“Most of the players are fine but some are still in shock of the incident, and one who was injured on the head.
” Majorly the one affected the most was the driver who was hit by a stray bullet but he’s also somewhere in kogi currently receiving treatments. He didn’t disclose some vital information on the place the players are receiving treatment due to security reasons.
He also added ” but the most important thing is that we are doing fine, stabilising, and also ensuring that our players get out of their shocks and see if we would be able to play the game on Sunday.
He also added that he couldn’t really ascertain due to shock and everything happened swift.
