Immediate past Governor of Kogi state, Capt Idris Wada says the old legacies and values of respect for both elders, constituted authorities is the bane for the return of peace, securtiy and unity in Igala -Bassa Land.
Capt Wada gave this admonition in Grand Ibro Hotel at a program organised by the Igala-Bassa Relief Developement initiative, saying the activities of hoodlums will go unabated with the erosion of old legacies.
The former Kogi state Governor maintained that the indices of insecurity had gone beyond political thuggery to banditry, kidnapping and other forms of social vices prevalent in our land.
‘We must respect our culture and tradition that frowned against all these vices, if we must get it right again in kogi and Nigeria in general’.
‘While we were growing up about 60 to 55 years ago, whenever there was an incident of death in our domain, for one week,we don’t go out,but children of today will want to see the corpse of a dead person, this is not acceptable during our time.’Capt Wada said.
‘We need to come together to drive the current scourge prevalent in Igala Bassa land to forestall the unfortunate incidences in the last few years’.
‘This is beyond providing job opportunities and engagements outlets for our teeming youths to return our lost glory in Igala nation.’
‘Hence my ressolve to convene a meeting of prominent Igala sons and daughters in my residence to discourage future endeavors in the negative business by our teeming youths.’
‘For four consecutive times,I have hosted such fora in my residence not minding the political affiliations,as our goals is to settle differences between our political gladiators.’
‘We intend to continue in this trend even though we have not set up a formal secretariat to continue with the peace meeting,as this will be a departure from the fragile atmosphere in our land.’
‘The former Governor thanked the convener,Ustaz Yunus SAN and other contributors, appeal to them to make more fora available to discuss Igala nation.’
‘We are sincerely grateful to the legal luminary, even though not a politician, but the interest of Igala race is close to his heart.’ Capt Idris Wada said.
