THE People’s Democratic party (PDP) in Kogi State has reminded the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello that what accrues monthly to the state from the federation account is not his security votes.
The spokesman of the party, Prince Bode Ogunmola in a press statement issued on Sunday was a reaction to a statement credited to the governor’s chief of staff, Edward Onoja during an event hosted by the National Association of Health Workers Union of Nigeria where he said if salaries must be paid with statutory allocation, then the people will have to contend with insecurity.
The PDP described the statement as uncharitable and insensitive, wondering what states in the Northeast with more serious security issues will do.
The party said the grand plan of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to continue to impoverish the people is being exposed everyday and urged the electorate to rise up against misgovernance.
“We have said it severally that resources of the state are being looted under different guises. Just how much does the state spend every month from the allocation on security that it cannot pay salaries?”
The PDP said the government cannot continue to fool itself believing that it is fooling all the people of the state, noting that its atrocities are in public domain and at the appropriate it will be called upon to give account.
The party further chided the chief of staff for praying that bailout continues to roll in for the state so that it can sustain salary payment.
It described such intentions as heartless and anti- people, adding that other states with more serious security challenges have managed to sustain salary payments and embark on projects.
“Unfortunately, in Kogi State we are saying that we are spending all that accrues to us monthly to fight kidnappers and armed robbery. This is laughable and it is the height of deceit,” the party remarked.
It advised the Governor and his aides to get their act together, warning that the day of reckoning is at hand and the people will speak through the ballot box.
“They should not be under any illusion that the electorate do not know the truth. They have suffered enough and the PDP is determined to safe them from the Pharoahs of the land,” the statement warned.
