A 60-year-old father, Ikechukwu, is believed to have killed his son in Ogbozinne-Ndiagu community, in the Nkanu West Local Government, Enugu State.
The father of four reportedly killed his son Thursday, claiming the 32-year-old threatened to kill him over unresolved issues.
PUNCH Metro learned that Ikechukwu and his son were home when they had an argument.
When the argument became heated, the father reportedly asked the village chairman of Ogbozinne for help, alleging that his son threatened to kill him.
In a bid to salvage the situation, the village chairman alerted the community chief security officer.
Our correspondent learned that the Chairman, CSO, and their team rushed to Ikechukwu’s house to rescue him.
A source said when the group arrived at the house around 2 a.m. on Thursday, Ikechukwu’s son warned them not to enter the premises.
“After a while, Ikechukwu, who said his son was holding him hostage, came out and opened the door. He asked the CSO and his men to handcuff the deceased until morning so that his son would not kill him. But while the security forces handcuffed the boy, the father cut off his back with an axe.
“The chairman and the security men left the house after the deceased was handcuffed and thrown to the ground. Unfortunately, Ikechukwu called community members that morning that his son had died and that they should come and bury him, ”the source added.
Another source said community members turned down the request because Ikechukwu threatened to hire workers to dig a grave and ask the police to oversee the burial.
“Unfortunately, when community leaders went to the Agbani Police Department to oversee the burial, community leaders stormed the station and reported the incident, and he was then arrested,” the source said.
State Police PR officer, Daniel Ndukwe confirmed the incident, adding that three suspects had been arrested.
Ndukwe said, “Three suspects were arrested in connection with the alleged conspiracy and murder case. The Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department is investigating.
“The father of the deceased, the community Chairman and the CSO are supporting the police in their investigations.
