As battled for who takes over Lugard House in November 2 governorship election in Kogi state draws nearer, there is strong indication that the national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Senator Ahmed Tinubu will soon unveil his anointed candidate for the election.
Although, the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has been moving round meeting notable people for the party’s ticket as he was not sure if he will get the ticket or not.
Not to be outdone, Yahaya Bello initially in a reaction allegedly threatened abandoning APC for the Accord Party but he quickly coiled away from the threat, only to make public announcement the he still remains a bonafide member of the APC.
Bello had boasted severally that the President considers him his son, but APC’s body language in the past weeks had suggested to Governor Bello that the party will not offer him the ticket to contest for the gubernatorial elections.
Governor Yahaya Bello in the last three weeks has been shuttling between Lokoja and Abuja, visiting some APC leaders including some Ministers to have their support for the party governorship primary in August.
However, source close to the APC national secretariat in Abuja disclosed to our reporter that all is not well for the governor.
According to the source, the poor performance of the governor raging from non payment of salary, sacking of workers and not embarking on developmental projects is given the party a sleepless night.
The source went further to say that Bello came to office as a result of the death of Prince Abubakar Audu from Kogi East, stressing that since the opposition party in the state which is the Peoples Democratic Party has decided to bring their candidate from east then it will be difficult for APC to win the election if the party pick from another senatorial and not from the east.
According to the source the visit of the governor to Senator Ahmed Tinubu was a disappointing one.
It was also revealed to our reporter that the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomole, in a private discussion with some APC stakeholders from Kogi State pointed to the dwindled popularity of the Kogi Governor as the major reason declining to put Yahaya Bello forward for the gubernatorial exercise. “APC will lose”.
Adamu Aliyu Oshiomole, believes the Kogi Governor had performed terribly below expectation as the Governor and the people of the State have since turned their backs against the Governor.
Beyond Oshiomole, the national leader of the party, Chief Bola Tinubu has his opposition against the continued stay of Yahaya Bello as the Governor of Kogi State. Bola Tinubu, according to the source, has his choice candidate and is willing to go ‘any length’ to impose his choice candidate.
Bola Tinubu also believes the “APC will lose” if the gubernatorial ticket is given to Yahaya Bello.
This story about Tinubu is nauseating and shoudnt have been published at all. Kogi is not one of his conquered territories.
Anybody can be governor in kogi but not one annointed by Tinubu. Kogi is not lagos.
