The immediate past governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has finally honored the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following consultations with his family, legal team, and political allies.
Director, Yahaya Bello Media Office,
Ohiare Michael in a press statement issued on Wednesday said Yahaya Bello, who has consistently expressed deep respect for the rule of law, had previously sought the enforcement of his fundamental rights to ensure due process was followed.
His legal team had been representing him at every hearing before a competent court of jurisdiction.
However, he has now personally honored the EFCC’s invitation to clear his name, confident that he has nothing to hide. The former governor emphasized his unwavering belief in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and its focus on sustainable economic development, as well as the anti-corruption campaign.
He pointed out that during his tenure, he was the first governor in Kogi State to implement an anti-corruption framework to ensure the state’s resources were effectively managed for the benefit of the people. Yahaya Bello was accompanied by high-profile Nigerians to the EFCC headquarters.
His media team expressed hope that the anti-graft agency would uphold the former governor’s fundamental rights as they carry out their duties professionally. Further details of his interaction with the EFCC operatives will be disclosed in due course.
