A civil society organization, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR), has criticize the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) for not releasing results of local government polls conduct in December last year.
This was made known in a statement issued by the Executive Director of CHRCR, Comrade Idris Miliki in Lokoja.
He expressed concerns that 65 days after KOSIEC conducted elections in the local government councils in the state, it has not deemed it fit to release official results of the poll.
He demanded that KOSIEC release results for each polling unit, wards and local government in the state.
“Where are the results? Elections are the heartbeat of democracy. It gives opportunity for people to make choices, in electing their own leaders and representatives. Result is an outcome of an activities.
“The Kogi State Independence Electoral commission (KOSIEC) conducted elections into the local government councils on the December 12 2020. Up till now,  no results have been published or released, 65 days after.
“The present government in the state refused to conduct elections into the local government councils since it came into power on 27th January 2016, until 12 December 2020 and yet, the citizens whose tax is being used to perform government activities could not see the the results of the election claimed to have brought the council officials into office.
“We demand that the results of the local government councils elections conducted on the 12 December 2020 be released without further delay,” he said.
The rights activist demanded that KOSIEC release the local government, polling units and wards results as it has been the practice by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
KOSIEC conducted elections into the twenty one local government councils in the state on December 12, 2020 and declared winners for all 238 ward councillor seats and twenty one chairmanship positions. The winner had since been sworn in and have resumed office in their respective councils.
