A member of House of Representative, representing Ajaokuta Federal constituency in Kogi State, Hon. Idirissu Lawal, has called for vigorous expansion of the country’s industrial base so that the economy could better withstand the likely devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic that is threatening the whole world.
The House of Representatives member who is also the Chairman of the West African Ceramic Ltd, Ajaokuta, Kogi State, made the call on Saturday while presenting the company relief items to the constituency, as part of West African Ceramics Limited palliative to assist in ameliorating the effects of the restriction of movement due to COVID–19 Pendemic.
He said the gesture is to encourage and give hope to members of the company’s host community in this difficult period.
He called on the people of the areas, particularly the youth, to partner with the government, so that development programmes initiated will achieve their desired impact.
He also called for revival of communal spirit, said Nigerians must support one another in the face of the rampaging Coronavirus disease, “That is the best way humanity can overcome all the challenges the corona virus poses.”
He assured that the company will continue to partner with the people, most especially that it has been a veritable support to making the company realize its objectives.
“Our company is presently rehabilitating the Ofunene – Ajoaokuta road, and we promise to begin work on the Adogo -Ajoaokuta road to help ease the sufferings of motorists.
“The company has been a part of the people. We have intervened in education, water, building of churches and mosque for the people, and we promised to do more in the coming year.”
Many of those who benefited from the gesture (rice, cartons of groundnut oil, maggi cube and N10,000 each) were full of smiles and appreciation.
