Kwara state government has again reiterated the State Government commitment to continuously engage the public engagement in budgetary process which is geared towards ensuring citizens imputs and opinions are incoperated into the fiscal appropriation for the rapid development of the State.
This was made known by the Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Mr. Kayode Alabi during the Kwara Central citizens engagement on 2022 budget preparation in Afon, Asa local Government of Kwara State.
Mr. Kayode Alabi said the citizens engagement has commenced since the inauguration of the current Administration under the able leadership of Mallam Abdulraman Abdulrazaq noting that the new new trend is a sharp departure where budget were prepared by the will and desires of Government officials.
Mr. Alabi added that citizens engagement will not only improve the efficiency of the budgetary preparation but is also in line with world best practice geared towards transparency, efficiency and accountability of the budgetary process.
Also speaking at the event, the chairman Kwara State House of Assembly House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Ibrahim Ambali says the citizens engagement on budgetary process in Kwara State is a true reflexion of the exemplary leadership of Mallam Abdulrazaq.
He noted that Townhall meetings is an opportunity to deepen citizens participation in democracy, promote greater equity in the allocation of public resources adding that citizens engagement on governance has also been linked to poverty reduction and social inclusion, better government planning, investment and service delivery, he added.
Also, speaking at the event the Honourable Commissioner for works and transport , Engineer Rotimi Suleiman Ilyasu applauded the State Government on the giant strides that has so far recorded in frastructures by the current Administration adding that the Government will not relent in ensuring more roads and other infrastructures are constructed for the benefit of all kwara residents.
He added that people’s request on 2021 budget has been largely implemented noting that some are ongoing while many others are in line to take off.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance and Planning, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Folohunsho said the citizens engagement is geared towards harvesting citizens views and opinions for 2022 budget preparation adding that the platform is to encourage and create avenue for community to have equal participation in the budgetary process.
