The All Progressive Congress on Monday released the screening report for its governorship aspirant.
Out of 16 aspirants that were screened, 4 aspirants have been cleared to contest the forthcoming primaries.
Among those cleared include
governor Yahaya Bello, Hon. Hassan Baiwa, Engr Bashir Gegu and one Mrs Ekele.
The party governorship primary comes up in Lokoja kogi state on Thursday.
Meanwhile, concerned stakeholders in the Kogi State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have raised the alarm over an alleged plot by Governor Yahaya Bello to use the Chairman of the APC Governorship screening committee, Senator Hope Uzodinma to disqualify leading contenders in the race for the party’s ticket, so as to clear the way for Governor Yahaya Bello’s victory at the party’s primary billed to hold August 29.
The stakeholders under the auspices of Kogi Emancipation Movement (KEM) alleged on Sunday that the Senator Uzodinma Committee has been compromised by Governor Bello, describing the Committee as acting, so far, in a manner that is undisguisedly biased and devoid of any shred of impartiality.
”It is common knowledge this is the first time that a screening committee will be screening aspirants outside of Abuja, the nation’s capital. This development worries us as key stakeholders. We know that the Kogi State Chapter of the APC is an appendage of the Governor Yahaya Bello’s office with its undisguised support as it pertains the upcoming governorship primary election in our dear state. To begin to add the national working committee in the scheme is scandalous,” the statement signed by the Convener of KEM, Apostle Eniola Williams said.
The statement said it was scandalous that the party is not hiding its plan to shut credible contenders out of the race even when it knows for a fact that a Yahaya Bello’s second coming portends disaster for Kogi State.
Williams said it was sad that the Adams Oshiomhole led NWC of the party has yet to disband the Senator Uzodinma led screening committee even in the face of allegations that the committee has received huge financial inducement in order to screen out key contenders from the race thereby leaving only those sponsored by the governor, who, according to plan, will step down on the eve of the poll.
He said party supporters as well as majority of the aspirants were disposed to direct primary as a way of selecting the party’s flag bearer because it is more democratic but said that with or without the direct primary, “Yahaya Bello will be defeated fair and square.”
Williams noted that it was rather unfortunate that, instead of owning up on its ineptitude and insensitivity to the plight of Kogi people for four years now, Governor Yahaya Bello and his puppets at the Kogi APC and indeed the APC NWC have chosen the path of unprovoked, malicious attempt to scheme credible contenders out of the race.
He stressed that the choice of such path by the party is further proof that the lives of my people do not matter to it.
“it is a well-known fact that a Yahaya Bello’s second term would mean hunger, poverty, disease, continuing political weakness, falling standard of education and dwindling prospect of progress in all the critical sectors of Kogi State’s economy.
“The life of a single person who has died from hunger as a result of nonpayment of salary should matter and its loss is regrettable and calls for serious concern. It is more painful when such life is lost in a preventable circumstance,” the statement said.
The Kogi Emancipation Movement said it was aware that when leaders of a political party become partial as some members of the APC have become, the situation often helps to lay the groundwork for rigging in elections but warned that all other aspirants and their supporters will resist the rigging of August 29 APC governorship primary in Kogi State.
