• As TCN laments disruption in power evacuation
Customers serviced by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) were in the early hours of Monday thrown into darkness as workers shut down power facilities.
Workers at the company had embarked on an indefinite strike action over non-payment of their 20-month entitlements.
As of the time of filing this report, the company’s offices visited as well as its headquarters in Zone 4, Abuja were under lock and key.
Placards were seen plastered at the entrance of the offices. Some read: “Pay the remaining: batches of 2020 bonus”, “Pension remittances (19 months)”, “AEDC management pay us now!”.
Meanwhile, management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria(TCN) has stated that due to the ongoing strike action, power evacuation from injection substations across AEDC franchise area has been disrupted.
In a statement by its Spokesperson, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, it assured that it has available bulk power for delivery to the distribution load centres of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to offtake for its customers.
“TCN regrets this disruption and assures Nigerians that normal bulk power delivery to AEDC will be restored as soon as the injection substations are opened for onward electricity supply to consumers,” the statement read.
The areas under the AEDC franchise include Abuja, Nasarawa, Kogi, parts of Edo, Niger and Kaduna States.
