An APC stalwart from Ajaokuta Local Government Area, Comrade Abdulraheem Okekenu has berated the Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, for instigating ethnic crisis.
Comrade Okekenu was reacting to the interview granted by Ajaka, on the Channel television, where he was said to have called on the Okun people to team up with the Igalas to fight the Ebiras who he tagged as common enemies.
He said, if the SDP governorship candidate was speaking out of his love for the Okun people, why was he calling on them to support him instead of him throwing his weight behind an Okun candidate. “This is an after thought
“We need people who can guarantee peaceful coexistence among the people of the state, who has the love of everyone at heart, not a sectional leader.
“After Ododo’s tenure by the grave of God, Okun or Koto will come as governor of the state. He maintained.
While cautioning him against this divisive politics which he said could trigger serious crisis in the state, he reminded him that the Ebiras surrendered the governorship position to his kinsmen on a plata of gold in 1991, upon the creation of the state.
“Let me remind Alhaji Ajaka that when Kogi state was created in 1991, the people he brazenly referred to, today as common enemies willingly gave them the governorship position, considering their predicament in the old Benue state.
“Let me also warn that such careless statement is capable of causing disunity and even serious crisis in the state. I urged our brothers from the area to caution Ajaka against plunging the state into crisis.
“It is very unfortunate that this statement was coming from someone who want to govern the state. I advise him to immediately tender an unreserved apology to the Ebiras.
“The Okun people know their enemy , because in the build up to the primary election, we still have some notable Ebiras who had advocated for an Okun man to become the governor.
