The appointment of Alhaji Abdullahi Sule as Ag Executive Chairman,Federal Capital Territory Universal Basic Education Board FCT UBEB,was another milestone in it’s efforts both by the Federal Capital Territory administration and the zeal of the new leadership to reposition the body after COVID in 2020, that ravaged the country and lockdown.
His ascension, though, in acting capacity kicked the ground running by ensuring efforts to reactivate and reposition the board after the world ravaged pandemic not envisaged by Nigerians.
Sule’s wealth of experience in the last one year had demonstrated and justified the government’s decision that allowed insiders to take over the leadership of the Board, to ensure seamless primary schools administration in the nation’s capital.
Since the Board is the foundation of children enrolled in public schools and government determination to ensure both standard and quality education for children resident in the Federal Capital Territory, the need for more concerted efforts with a view not to only meeting the demands of government from education administrators, but the international communities.
As the seat of government,it is expected that policies and programs implementation at the federal level, will be replicated towards enhancing quality and result oriented standard of education in the FCT and by extension the entire country.
Therefore,to mitigate the post COVID era when school pupils as a result of many months lockdown had lost some valuable learning period, efforts were made to mitigate the situation through instant adjustment of school calendars, provision of incentives to teachers and staffers, instructional materials to cater for any eventuality both in second and third wave of COVID.
As an administrator and educationist per excellence,it was easier for the Ag Chairman to continue many laudable policies and also initiated new ones, in line with the prevailing natural occurrences and artificial phenomenon.
School teachers and children were mandated to observe not only non pharmaceutical requirements by use of facemask, washing of hands with soap and water, avoid congestion, provision of medicaments like hand sanitizers in schools and washing hand basins, to ensure a healthy environment among pupils and teachers.
In spite of the dire demands for backlog of jobs left behind as a result of COVID,staffers of the board operated strictly in line with the Presidential Committee on COVID, as some or it’s staff were allowed to work from home based on your level, without any administrative delay on many assignments demanding for attention.
Payments of monthly salaries, trainings, workshops and talk shops both for professionals and administrators in the Board had been a routine decimal, geared towards improving on their activities and service.
The seamless activities under the Ag leadership of Alhassan Sule in the last one year aftermath of COVID, had demonstrated the zeal of capacity and capability to drive the hub of education foundation to a more result oriented level in the FCT, giving the opportunity to leverage on his wealth of experience.
The decision of FCT administration will be laudable and welcome,as his confirmation of appointment will be a round peg in a round hole.
