The National President, Mr. Alabi David has called for the review of the allocation formula, described the present 22% as grossly inadequate, also called for an increase in the State Government allocation.
The National President pointed out that the State and local governments in Nigeria needs more in the area of allocation sharing formula because of the responsibilities it has to superintend over, reason why the Local Government Chairmen in Nigeria are calling on the Federal Government to quickly make an adjustment to the revenue sharing formula.
The National President called on other Governor’s to follow the footsteps of Gov. Bello by making local government autonomous, described Gov. Bello as a shining example in leadership as it has to do with local government administration.
He made the call on Friday in Lokoja during his visit to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello in his office.
All the Council Chairmen in Nigeria, converging on Lokoja, have asked other Governors in the Country to emulate Gov. Yahaya Bello for his outstanding performances that has led to the autonomy of LGA administration in the State.
He urged other Governors in the country to emulate Governor Bello for being the first State to make the Local Government Autonomous, said as Council Chairmen in Nigeria, they are proud of his sterling leadership qualities.
While stating that the time for Governor’s to embrace community policing that has led to the success story in Kogi State as noble, said if
crime is tackled at grassroots level of government, said it would tackle the challenge no insecurity bedeviling the country.
He equally praised Kogi State for being the first State to have passed the local government autonomy bill currently before all State Assembly in the Country, described Kogi State as a model for others to learn from.
He equally commended Gov. Bello for making the state about the safest in the country, praised him for his bottom top approach in fighting insecurity in the State, described the security and infrastructure development ongoing in the State.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor Yahaya Bello notes that the challenge of insecurity the country is passing through requires collective responsibility, said the choice of Kogi State is not far fetched and apt, mostly that it is about the safest state as far as Nigeria is concerned.
He assured that working in synergy with the Council Chairmen in the State, he has been able to fight insecurity to a standstill.
The Governor said his administration has made women and youths a priority, thus given them a sense of belonging, assured that he will continue to make the welfare of the people a priority.
The Governor urged the Council Chairmen to take advantage of the visit to visit landmark projects in the State, particularly in the health sector, said the only thing the present administration can’t give in Kogi is life, said all that is however needed to save life and take care of the people’s health need has been made available.
