The Executive Director, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution, Comr. Idris Miliki has said that ahead of 2023 general election, Nigerians should prioritised corruption issues and accountability.
He made the disclosure on Monday at a Quarterly Review Meeting on Prioritizing Anti-Corruption and Accountability issues towards 2023 Elections.
The Quarterly Review meeting was organised by Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR) in partnership with Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC).
According to Comr. Miliki, the goal of the meeting is to start early sensitization ahead the 2023 general election towards conscientising critical stakeholders, like the Media and Civil Society Organization on the need to institutionalize anti corruption, transparency and accountability in Nigeria.
He explained further that this demand can be achieved by ensuring political commitment towards deepening and spreading anti corruption, transparency and accountability messages ahead the 2023 General Elections by political actors.
The essence of institutionalizing the issues of Anti-corruption and Accountability he further explained would ensure that whoever emerge as candidates of the various political parties would mainstream issues of Anti-corruption and accountability in their agenda.
Comr. Miliki lamented the absence of Anti-corruption and Accountability over the years in the nation’s polity, attributed it absence failure of the nation’s democracy.
He equally added that the sensitization message and meeting would help citizens to make demands from their representatives before, during and after elections, consequently raising the consciousness for Anti-corruption and Accountability by elected representatives of the people.
The Executive Director tasked those seeking to represent the people and in position of authorities to see Anti-corruption and Accountability as the bedrock of any sustainable democracy, insisting that its importance, reason for the early meetings to sensitise critical stakeholders on what is expected of them.
The Executive Director, CHRCR described the Preview meeting as a preelection activity geared towards raising the issues of Anti-corruption and Accountability in the polity and for political actors seeking to represent the people to have the consciousness by having a deman charter with the people.
