AS the Supreme Court set to finally deliver Judgement today on Kogi state Governorship election, there is serious tension and apprehension in the state.
Nevertheless, the Speaker Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Prince Matthew Kolawole says he is confidence of victory.
The Supreme Court was expected to deliver judgment last week Tuesday but decided to differed Judgement till Monday.
While the camp of Governor Yahaya Bello of APC is praying for Supreme Court to affirm the election of the Governor, the camp of Musa Wada of PDP prays for Supreme Court to declare their candidate the winner of the governorship election.
Also, the camp of Natasha Akpoti of SDP prays for the Supreme Court to nullify the election and order for fresh election where their party will be included on the ballot papers for the election.
However, Kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and some of his cabinet members have shifted base to Abuja in the last two week as a result of the awaiting judgement of the court.
The Speaker of kogi state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Prince Matthew Kolawole has expressed confidence that Governor Yahaya Bello and his Deputy, Chief Edward David Onoja will be victorious at the Supreme Court on Monday.
The Speaker Rt. Hon. Prince Matthew Kolawole says is confidence that Bello would win the case.
Speaking in Lokoja on Sunday, he said the issues canvassed by the petitioners are not issues that call for worries, noting that the lower courts have done justice to those cases which to the best of his knowledge the appellate court will affirm come next week.
He noted with nostalgia the popularity of the All Progressive Congress in the State, stressing that the petitioners are only using the cases to distraction the administration.
He further said the recent assent of Governor Yahaya Bello on the bill for a law to establish the Confluence University for Science and Technology, Osara, Kogi State passed by the assembly is one of the legacy projects that will go a long way to transform the State in the world of technology.
He commended the jurists for upholding the position of the lower courts in dismissing the appeal of the Democratic People’s Party, DPP for unlawful exclusion by the INEC, stressing that the court is not a confusing agent that will be granting such frivolous request to cancel such a successful election.
Others who also spoke said as far they are concern, governor Bello will definitely win at the supreme Court.
However, some members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who spoke said the verdict may not favour their party.
According to one Mr. Paul Hassan since the governor won his case at the Tribunal and Appeal Court it is certain that the Supreme Court judgment will also favour him.
He noted that it is only miracle that can safe PDP in today judgement stressing that it will be difficult for the Apex court to upturn the appeal Court Judgement in favour of PDP.
The seven-man panel of the Supreme Court presided by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Muhammad who had announced on Tuesday said judgment will be delivered on Monday, August 31, 2020 on the two separate appeals challenging the return of Yahaya Bello as the Governor of Kogi State.
