Medical workers of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, Kogi state have embarked on an indefinite strike following the attack on the facility on Wednesday by some group of hoodlums.
A statement issued by the Joint Action Congress JAC stated that Congress was embarking on the strike to register their greivieances following the hoodlums attacks
Hoodlums numbering over 50 Stormed the premises of the Federal Medical Centre Lokoja in the early hours of Wednesday destroying the administrative block and carted away files and computers relating to Covid-19 patients.
The statement signed by Dr Adeyemi William, Chairman Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria,MDCAN,Dr Nana Agwu, President Association of E Doctors,ARD,Comrade Obajemu Samuel,JOHESU Chairman and Secretary,John Omoche stated that it has resolved to totally withdraw it’s services across board till further notice.
The body noted that “the decision was premised on the attack to our lives and properties this by unknown hoodlums when some equipment like infrared thermometers, laptops, ATM cards, car and motorcycles which are vital in providing care worker were carted away including vandalisation of our administrative block .”
According to them,”not that until there is guarantee of the security of lives and properties, adequate provision of personal protective equipment PPE, and the identification of covid-19 status of A&E staff that went on self-isolation, expansion and provision of testing facilities, PCR machine while the number of patients to be attended to by clinic should be maximum of 20 while patients on appointments should be stratified into two sections to reduce crowd and canopies provided we may not resume duties.”
