In the ever-evolving political landscape of Kogi State, few personalities have commanded as much influence, respect and grassroots acceptance across Kabba, Bunu and Ijumu as Prince Matthew Olushola Kolawole.

Through years of public service, legislative leadership and community engagement, he has established himself as one of the defining political figures of the constituency.

Prince Kolawole’s political journey is a story of resilience, consistency and dedication. From his early involvement in grassroots politics to his election into the Kogi State House of Assembly in 2015, he steadily built a reputation as a leader who understands the needs and aspirations of ordinary people.

His performance in the Assembly quickly earned him the position of Majority Leader before he was elected Speaker in 2017, a position he retained after his re-election in 2019, making him the longest-serving Speaker in the history of the Kogi State House of Assembly. As Speaker, Prince Kolawole presided over one of the most stable legislative periods in the state’s history.

His leadership style emphasized consensus-building, cooperation among lawmakers and cordial executive-legislative relations without compromising the independence of the Assembly. Under his watch, numerous bills and motions aimed at improving governance and development were considered and passed.

Beyond legislative accomplishments, Prince Kolawole has remained deeply connected to the grassroots. His political philosophy has consistently revolved around service, accessibility and empowerment.

Across Kabba-Bunu-Ijumu Federal Constituency, many beneficiaries have received scholarships, educational support, financial assistance, medical interventions and empowerment programmes through his personal initiatives.

His annual programmes for widows and vulnerable persons have further strengthened his bond with the people.

One of Prince Kolawole’s greatest political strengths is his ability to unite diverse interests within the constituency.

Kabba-Bunu-Ijumu is known for its vibrant political environment, yet he has consistently demonstrated the capacity to bridge divides, foster dialogue and build lasting political alliances. This inclusive approach has earned him admiration across different communities, age groups and political tendencies.

His influence also extends to youth development. Recognising that the future belongs to young people, he has invested in mentoring emerging leaders, supporting students and encouraging entrepreneurship.

Many young politicians in the constituency regard him as a mentor whose experience and accessibility continue to shape the next generation of leadership.
Prince Kolawole’s resilience has also been evident in moments of political challenge.

Despite electoral contests and legal battles, he has remained active in public life, sustaining his engagement with constituents and reinforcing his image as a politician whose relevance is rooted in grassroots support rather than political office alone.

Today, discussions about the political future of Kabba-Bunu-Ijumu are rarely complete without mentioning Prince Matthew Kolawole. His name remains synonymous with legislative experience, organisational strength and people-oriented leadership.

Supporters view him as a bridge between experience and emerging leadership, while many believe his record positions him as a significant figure in the constituency’s future political direction.

Leadership is measured not only by the offices held but by the lives touched and the institutions strengthened. Through years of service, Prince Matthew Kolawole has left an enduring imprint on Kabba-Bunu-Ijumu politics.

His legacy of legislative excellence, grassroots mobilisation and commitment to public service continues to make him a leading light whose influence resonates far beyond election seasons.
