
The Kogi State Government has confirmed the successful rescue of all victims abducted from the Daarul-Kitab Islamic Orphanage in Lokoja, bringing relief to families and residents following the disturbing incident.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the government disclosed that troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, working in collaboration with other security agencies, carried out coordinated search-and-rescue operations that led to the recovery of the remaining victims.
According to the statement, the victims were rescued in the early hours of May 6, 2026, from the Agbaja Forest axis in Lokoja Local Government Area.
The rescued persons include five boys, two girls, and two adult females. They have since been evacuated to a military medical facility where they are receiving medical attention and care.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo commended the Nigerian Army and other security agencies involved in the operation for their bravery, professionalism, and commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state.
The governor also praised the resilience shown by the victims and their families during the ordeal, assuring residents that the security of lives and property remains the top priority of his administration.
He stated that the successful rescue operation demonstrates the government’s resolve to deny criminal elements any safe haven in Kogi State.
“We will continue to strengthen our security architecture, deepen intelligence gathering, and provide the necessary support for our security agencies to act swiftly and decisively,” the governor stated.
Governor Ododo further expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support toward maintaining security and stability in the state, while also thanking heads of security agencies across the country for their cooperation.
The Kogi State Government reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against kidnapping and other violent crimes, urging residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information.
The government assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down and prosecute those responsible for the abduction.
