
The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of one victim and the arrest of seven suspects following a kidnapping incident along the Ayere–Kabba Road in Kogi State.
The incident, which occurred on April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m., involved a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Chisco Transport Company, travelling from Lagos to Abuja when it was ambushed by armed hoodlums.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, said security operatives responded swiftly to the attack, leading to the successful rescue of one of the passengers, identified as 56-year-old Adoun Julius. The vehicle was also recovered and taken to a police facility for further investigation.
According to the statement, joint security teams comprising the police, military, and other agencies have intensified efforts to rescue the remaining abducted passengers. Ongoing operations include bush-combing and coordinated search-and-rescue missions across the area.
The command disclosed that seven suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the incident and are assisting with investigations.
It added that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), alongside other tactical units, is actively working to ensure the safe release of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible.
The police urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive by providing credible information that could aid ongoing operations, assuring that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
Families of the victims were also advised to report to the SCID headquarters in Lokoja, particularly the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, to assist in identification and investigation processes.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Kogi State Police Command warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law.
