People of Egbeda Egga community in Ijumu Local Government Area have continued to count their losses after a rainstorm destroyed over forty houses.

The disaster also affected worship centres, businesses and schools, destroying property worth millions of Naira.

National President of Egbeda-Egga Development Union (EDU), Dr Emmanuel Dare Otitolaiye, told our Reporter that the impact of the rainstorm is severe, and the beyond what the victims and the community can handle.

Dr. Otitolaiye therefore, appealed to the Local Government Chairman, the State Government through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to come to their aid of the victims.

According to him, the affected persons have been rendered homeless, taking shelter with neighbours, urging public spirited individuals to assist the Community as the current economic hardship is having a toll on them.

“We urge the authorities to provide immediate assistance to our people who have lost their homes, businesses, and livelihoods,” Dr Otitolaiye said.

“We need shelter, food, and medical aid to help our people recover from this disaster. We call on government agencies, NGOs, and philanthropists to support our relief efforts,” he added.

The rainstorm has caused widespread destruction, and the EDU is working to provide support to affected families.

It is important to emphasise that the people of Egbeda-Egga need help at the moment from government and nongovernmental organisations to enable them recover from the disaster.
