A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, Chief Adegboyega Kolade, has resigned from the party, citing destructive tendencies exhibited by the party’s leadership at the national and state levels.

Chief Kolade resigned in a letter dated July 18, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Ward 06, Mopamuro LGA, Kogi State, and made a copy available to journalists on Saturday in Lokoja.

He expressed his disappointment with the party’s leadership, particularly naming Acting Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum, Minister Nyesom Wike, Senator Natasha Akpoti, and other party officials as responsible for the party’s current state of disorganization.

Chief Adegboyega Kolade, a Barrister, Solicitor, Tax and Insolvency Consultant, who has been a member of the PDP since its formative stage in 1998, tendered his resignation letter, citing the party’s internal crisis and leadership style as reasons for his exit.

“I hereby tender my letter of resignation of membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The reason for my resignation is no other than the destructive tendencies exhibited/being exhibited at the National level by Mr. Umar Iliya Damagum, the Acting Chairman of the Party, Mr. Nyesom Wike, Senator Natasha Akpoti, and her minions at the State and Local Government level,” Chief Kolade stated in his letter.

The former PDP chieftain expressed appreciation to the party for the leadership opportunities given to him during his tenure but lamented that the party’s current leadership has made it toothless and disorganized.

Chief Kolade’s resignation is a significant blow to the PDP in Kogi State, and his departure is likely to further weaken the party’s already fragile structure.

Reactions are still coming in, but the PDP has yet to issue an official statement on Chief Kolade’s resignation
