The Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has formally taken over the regulatory oversight function of the electricity market in Kogi State.

This development marks a significant milestone in the state’s energy sector, as KERC assumes responsibility for regulating the electricity market in the state.

In a statement issued by Head Public Relations, (KERC) Alhaji Ali Atabor, and made available to newsmen in Lokoja on Wednesday stated that the Chairman/CEO of KERC, Engr. Ibrahim Abdwaaris, officially took over the regulatory oversight function from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) at a brief ceremony held in Abuja on Wednesday.

The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of NERC, Engr. Sanusi Garba, who promised collaboration and support for KERC.

Engr. Garba assured that NERC would provide KERC with all necessary documents and data required for seamless operations.

He reminded the KERC management that their new responsibilities come with challenges and prospects, and emphasized the importance of a smooth transition.

“We shall continue to extend our hands of friendship, because we want a smooth transition,” Engr. Garba said. “We will continue to do partnership with you for the good of the industry.”

Engr. Abdwaaris Chairman /CEO KERC expressed happiness over the cordial relationship between NERC and KERC, noting with delight the confidence reposed on his management by NERC.

He highlighted that KERC would continue to collaborate with NERC as it commences its regulatory oversight of the electricity market in Kogi State.

“We have gotten the necessary training to hit the ground running, to enable us take off with ease, and I must thank NERC for this opportunity,” Engr. Abdwaaris said.

The Chairman/CEO of KERC was accompanied to the ceremony by the Commission’s Secretary, Alhaji Kasim Mabo; Commissioner Legal, Licencing & Compliance (LLC), Professor Abdulkareem Ibrahim; Commissioner Engineering , performance & Monitoring (EPM), Engr. Michael Meliga; and the Head of Public Relations, Alhaji Ali Atabor.

This development is expected to enhance the regulatory framework for the electricity market in Kogi State, and facilitate the state’s efforts to become energy sufficient.
