The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) Kwara State Chapter has organized a white ribbon procession to the Chief Medical Director of Kwara State General Hospital to extend its heartfelt solidarity for the release of its esteemed colleague, Professor Ekanem Phillip-Ephraim, who was abducted recently in Calabar, Cross River State.
It would be recalled that Professor Ekanem Ephraim, a lead consultant of neurology at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH, was abducted from her residence in Calabar by gunmen posing as relations to a patient in dire need of medical attention
It was however gathered that her abductors have kept the family in the dark despite collecting about ten million naira as an initial deposit in lieu of the agreed sum of 15million naira which was demanded for her freedom.
The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) Chairman, Kwara State Chapter Hospital Management Board Dr Ajiboye Olayemi Anthony said “In a poignant display of our profound sadness at this unfortunate incident, MDCAN Kwara State organized a white ribbon procession to the Chief Medical Director of Kwara State General Hospital.
“During this procession, heartfelt prayers were offered for the safe and swift release of our colleague and for God to grant strength to her family during these challenging times. We also beseech the Almighty to watch over our nation, heal our land, and protect us from such distressing events in the future.”
In his response, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) General Hospital Ilorin Dr Ahmed Bola Abdulkadir who decried the security challenges in the country, expressed optimism of the new security chiefs in curtailing the security challenges as well prayed the abducted colleague to reunit with his family soon
He added that security is everyone business as all hands should be on deck in curbing it by reporting anything seen in the community to security agencies
” We pray to Almighty God that the government will be firmed on it, all this security challenges will completely come to a stop” he said
While stated the security measures put in place in hospital, he urged everyone to be security vigilant
“By the Grace of God if there is any letter that come from you, we will surely forwarded it to the right quarters’ he said.
