Miss Blessing Attah, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Kogi, has organized a one-day training for teachers in the state, to equip them with the right knowledge for efficiency.

The training workshop was a personal Community Development Service (P-CDS) project of Attah, with the theme: ‘Efficiency in Teaching”.

Attah told newsmen at the training venue in Lokoja, that the project was birthed out of her strong passion and burden for teaching and for teachers.

Attah said that her past and present experience in teaching environments had shown that teachers were in most cases not adequately taken care of.

She stressed that the state of mind of the teacher had direct implication on how such teacher impacted knowledge on the student.

”As a result of the teaching profession lacking efficiency, my project is directly targeting teachers to equip them with the right knowledge to enable them reach out to the student positively.

“In every field of career, efficiency, diligence and excellence are major key to excel.

”For a teacher to impact knowledge, he or she must cultivate the spirit of efficiency as it depicts the whole essence of what teaching should be” she said.

Speaking at the training, Mr Muazu Idris, a Zonal Inspector of NYSC, Lokoja, urged the teachers to be God fearing and efficient in their teaching profession.

Idris urged teachers to be of noble character and selfless in executing their professional duties, saying they were the nation builders and their contributions could never be overestimated.

He, however, commended the Corps member for the initiative while urging others to replicate such spirits in their various hosts’ communities.

Also speaking, Mrs Mary Egwuda, the Proprietress of Koggie Academy, said that a teacher could help their wards attain their full potentials regardless of the way they measured success.

Egwuda, in her paper presentation, titled: ”Indispensable Teacher and how a Teacher can Guide a Child in Discovering his Purpose and Destiny”, said teachers must be able to effectively motivate their students.

”Teachers must be able to motivate, inspire and guild the students against all forms of social vices and have a sound knowledge of their subject.

”For a teacher to be effective and efficient, he must have a teaching plan, a sense of purpose, goodrapor with the students.

”Initiate positive attitude, communicate with parents and attending trainings and workshops for self-improvement,” Egwuda said.

Two participants from Government Science Sec. Sch., Lokoja, Mr. Labaran Dauda from Kogi Academy, and Mrs. Victory Adaji, both thanked the organiser for bringing them together for more enlightenment.

”The training has reminded us of what we know before and we learnt new skills from retired professional on how to relate with students in the classroom,” Dauda said.

The corps member had earlier visited Stagi Cornerstone Orphanage in Adankolo New layout, Lokoja, where she donated diapers, kerosene, detergents food items, and customised note books, among others.
