Reoccurring crisis in Agatu Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State continues to impact negatively on the lives and livelihood of community members in the LGA.
ActionAid Nigeria is working with Justice Development and Caritas Foundation (JDCF) in collaboration with Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to carry out an emergency humanitarian assistance targeting six (6) affected communities within the LGA that have in the recent past, suffered from crisis.
With commitment to ActionAid’s Humanitarian signature and the Core Humanitarian Standards, the project is reaching 350 women headed households in Okokolo, Oshigbudu, Odugbeho, Adana, Aila, Olegomakwo, with cash for food and dignity items worth N7.9M as a way of reducing the hardship caused by the incessant crisis.
WHY
Declining security systems in project state have increased the vulnerability of poor and excluded communities caught up in crisis. While youths and men also are also caught up in the aftermath of conflict, women and children often bear the brunt. The communal crisis in Agatu has left many women hopeless having lost their farmlands, a major source of income and husbands who were breadwinners.
This weeklong emergency intervention will provide appropriate aid to affected families in the LGA. A team of 14 youth volunteers were selected from the communities to lead the process and ensure that the most vulnerable households within the communities are identified and included as beneficiaries.
Each identified household will receive N14,000.00 as cash for food and women in the community will receive dignity kits (sanitary towels, wrapper, hygiene kits etc) worth N11,000.00, this will further assist to improve the coping capacity and alleviate the suffering which has been intensified by the crisis.
WHO
350 women headed households in 6 communities will be reached during this intervention which is led by ActionAid Nigeria in partnership with Justice Development and Caritas Foundation (JDCF) and in collaboration with Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
WHEN
This intervention is for a duration of 6 days starting from October 12th 2021.
WHERE
This emergency intervention will hold in 6 communities within Agatu LGA of Benue state which include: Okokolo, Oshigbudu, Odugbeho, Adana, Aila, and Olegomakwo.
