An NGO, Saving Dreams Foundation, has inducted 10 secondary schools in Kwara into the ‘Saving Leaders of Tomorrow’ Club.
Speaking at the induction ceremony in Ilorin on Tuesday, Director of the foundation, Mr Abdullateef Abdulkareem, said that the club was established to promote quality education through proficient reading, writing and spelling.
The schools inducted included: Government Secondary School, Ilorin; Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, Government Girls’ Day Secondary School, Pakata and Basin Staff College, Fate.
Others were: Basin Secondary School, Ansarul Islam Secondary School, Minaret Comprehensive High School, Government Day Secondary School, Tanke; Government High School and FCL College.
Abdulkareem said that the club was also out to promote educational performances of secondary school students through various activities capable of improving their intellectual capacities.
Host of the programme, Mr Hakeem Lawal, described the initiative as laudable in view of the dwindling standard of education.
”I congratulate the students who are here because of the opportunities to be tapped from. This programme will go a long way in shaping the minds of the students,” Lawal said.
Also speaking, Chief Press Secretary to Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Malam Rafiu Ajakaye, urged students to be selective of their company and always be with people who would help them to grow.
Ajakaye said that the students needed to explore all the available opportunities to go far in their academic pursuits, learn the basics of communication and master the mechanics of speaking in order to build themselves.
Some undergraduate students of University of Ilorin and Kwara State University were on hand to coach the students on their life experiences as speakers and orators.
The club was divided into reading, coding and showcasing, with each of the inducted schools presented with scrabble and chess boards.
The schools are required to, among other things, organise a literacy day, such as debate, unveiling edited short stories and spelling championship.
They are also expected to show days where each of the students will unveil any idea that can solve global problems.
