Amid a serious political race among chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, the president has finally reacted.
PM News reports that President Muhammadu Buhari reiterated that he would not cede power to any politician who cannot win an election in his domain.
It was gathered that the president spoke on Saturday, June 19, as a special guest of honour during the launch of Kudirat Abiola Sabon Gari, Zaria Peace Foundation which took place at Ahmadu Bello University Hotels, Zaria, Kaduna state.
The Nigerian leader said there was nothing Nigerians needed now than peace, adding that the country would be better if Nigerians remain united as a sovereign nation than fragmented entities.
President Buhari further noted that those agitating for separation of Country were ignorant of war and its consequences.
Buhari, who was represented by the executive secretary, revenue mobilization, allocation and fiscal commission, Mohammed Bello Shehu, explained further that for peace to reign in any society, people must be involved actively.
The Punch also reports that Buhari, however, asked Nigerians to focus on putting pressure on National Assembly members to make sure that that autonomy as enshrined in our constitution is respected and implemented.
President Buhari also appealed to Nigerian parents to try and educate their children, adding that people are better as a nation.
In another report, Southeast leaders on Saturday, June 19 disowned secessionist activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other pro-Biafran agitators, saying the groups don’t speak for the Igbo.
The leaders which include governors, federal lawmakers, elders, traditional and religious leaders in the region, affirmed their commitment to one united Nigeria under the platform of justice, equality of rights, fairness, love, and respect for one another.

TheCable reports that the decision was taken after a closed-door security meeting at the Enugu state government house.
They condemned in totality the violent secessionist agitations in the southeast and firmly proclaimed that such groups are on their own.
In a communiqué read to journalists at the end of the four-hour meeting, the leaders announced that they have set up a committee to engage such youths leading secessionist agitations.
Guardian reports that Umahi said the strategic meeting also condemned killings of security operatives and civilians in the southeast and other zones and urged security operatives to discharge their responsibilities within the rules of engagement.

PM News reports that part of the communique read:
“We, the southeast leaders condemn in totality the violent secessionist agitations in the southeast. We firmly proclaim that we do not support them. They do not speak for the southeast.”
Similarly, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Ebenezer Babatope, has blasted the people advocating for a Yoruba Nation.
According to the former minister, what Nigeria needs is restructuring where every region will be treated with fairness, Guardian Newspaper reports.

Babatope said fighting for a Yoruba nation is a misplaced priority. He said people should be fighting for a Nigeria that guarantees fairness and freedom of expression, where all tribes will have equal rights and opportunities.
The PDP Chieftain said it is necessary to restructure the country because this could give equal rights and freedom to all tribes in the country.
Going further, he called on President Muhammadu Buhari to be fair to all tribes in the country and be above partisan politics.
He disclosed this while featuring on a weekly radio show, ‘Ayekooto on Radio’ on Lagelu 96.7 FM, Felele, Ibadan, in Oyo state, Inside Oyo reports .
