Twelve days after Borno Governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum paid a visit to their headquarters in Abuja, the National Directorate of Employment on Monday set up 8,150 Borno citizens with different employment opportunities after their training.
Zulum in his address commended the Director General NDE and his team for been in Maiduguri, despite all the security situation.
“I am pleased to to say that of all the exaggerated negative picture painted of the security situation in the state, you cannot be the type that will be scared and intimidated as to shy away from your responsibilities to the state and people” Zulum said.
Zulum also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his efforts of restoring normalcy in Borno state.
“We have witnessed a horrific onslaught, quite devastating of lives and properties, massive displacement of people and communities, and unfortunate flow of refugees and displaced persons. The major preoccupation had mainly been that of meeting up or managing humanitarian crisis.”
“The efforts since 2015 has been to consolidate on the gains achieved and there has not been serious reversal even with the sporadic challenges witnessed intermittently. The credit goes largely to the Buhari Administration and its dogged commitment to fight the insurgency to a finish.” Zulum added.
Zulum added that his administration is concerned with finding solutions to the burning issues of unemployment and joblessness in the state, which he said is the reason for visiting the NDE headquarters 12 days ago.
During the Governor’s visit to NDE a worthwhile discussion were made, which lead to the disbursement we have witnessed today.
Moreover, Governor Zulum lauds the federal government post – insurgency programmes, particularly the establishment of the Northeast Development Commission, construction of 10,000 houses, provision of technical and vocational activities among others.
He however, assured that Borno state Government will strengthen partnership with the NDE, Bank of Industry, Ministries Trade and Investment as well as that of Labour and Productivity to create jobs and develop human capacity of the distressed and vulnerable population.
While making his remarks the DG NDE Dr. Nasir Mohammad Ladan assured the Government and people of Borno of their commitment in discharging their duties.
“Your Excellency, distinguished personalities, invited guests, today we are, in collaboration with the Borno State Government, injecting 8,150 jobs into the economy of the state through this vibrant young men and women. Before long, this will multiply several folds thus ensuring sustainable income, livelihood and economic growth.”
